Ugandan Handsewn Bags

Ugandan Kitenge Bags

£5.00

Description

Handsewn bags from the Community Advancement Initiative (CAI) in Kasese District Western Uganda.

CAI was established by a young woman called Esther who wanted to use her craft skills to help young, single mothers to develop skills which would enable them to earn an income to help support themselves and their children. The women have learnt simple tailoring skills and are able to use a sewing machine to make bags, and simple clothes. The Kitenge material is typical of East Africa – with bold designs and vibrant colours. A group of 8 women attend training sessions over a period of 6 months with the hope of then being able to establish a small business for themselves.
