The Origins of Duffin's Coffee

Duffin’s Coffee was born from a serendipitous chat with mates over a cup of… yep, coffee. A friend had just returned from a trip to Peru and was sharing stories about an incredible coffee cultivated by the Quichua and Aymara tribes deep in the Tambota Valley of Peru. That conversation sparked something in Steven – a new culinary challenge that perfectly aligned with his lifelong obsession with the perfect brew.

He immersed himself in coffee’s rich heritage, from those charming stories about Ethiopian dancing goats, to tales of how coffee once rattled the thrones of kings. Learning about cafe culture’s roots in the 1600s, only fuelled his passion.

It all kicked off in Steven’s kitchen with a basic domestic roaster. What started as a bit of an experimentation, quickly turned into an obsession. As the heavenly scent of fresh-roasted beans took over his home, he knew he needed proper space. By pure luck, he spotted a 2kg Brazilian roaster on eBay – picture a cement mixer with a Bunsen burner underneath. Those first months were pure trial and error, but each batch brought him closer to coffee perfection.

Increasing orders showed we were on the right track. Steven upgraded to a 15kg Giessen Coffee Roaster and created the Coffee Den – our dedicated roasting space.

At Duffin’s Coffee, quality drives everything. From selecting beans to the roasting process, we focus on creating coffee with real flavour, Our growth from kitchen project to cafe and a proper roasting facility, reflects out commitment to doing things right.
